The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Somewhat lost in the hubbub around the new Culver City Council members was the news that Culver City voters voted 'Yes' on the city's sole ballot measure, an initiative to raise the city's transient occupancy tax from 12 percent (effective since 1989) to 14 percent. It wasn't even close: the measure was approved by more than 80 percent of voters.
It just got a little more expensive to stay the night at the Culver Hotel. On the other hand, the increase is expected to raise about $510,000 for the city's general fund, to pay for city services such as police and fire protection, streets, parks, recreation, etc.
