The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
This Sunday, April 21, Culver City will serve as a hub and co-sponsor of the of the CicLAvia event, To the Sea. For the event, 15 miles of Venice Boulevard between Los Angeles’ historic center at El Pueblo de Los Angeles and Venice Beach will be transformed into a linear park, of sorts. The event will take place between 10 am and 3 pm.
During these CicLAvia events, whole streets are shut down to car traffic, encouraging bicyclists and pedestrians to explore the city and participate in a space that is normally dominated by automobiles. Since it began in 2010, CicLAvia has quickly become Los Angeles County’s most popular public event, consistently attracting more than 100,000 participants. CicLAvia is free of charge and open to everyone.
Culver City’s Parcel B and Main Street will serve as a “hub” -- a rest/activity stop along the designated CicLAvia route. The hub will allow participants to park their bicycle at a secure bicycle parking location, use facilities such as portable restrooms, bicycle repair and first aid, and explore downtown's restaurants and shops.
Some of the CicLAvia celebration highlights in downtown Culver City will include:
The Brilliant Gypsies - Celtic Folk Rock group, playing from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on the corner of Culver and Washington Boulevards (near Starbucks).
AK and Her Kalashnikovs - World music, playing from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the corner of Culver and Washington (near Starbucks).
Fathers and Suns – California rural folk/pop, playing from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the corner of Culver and Washington Boulevards (near Starbucks).
Rosendo – The folk/pop singer/songwriter, playing from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Culver Hotel.
Marston-Lord of the Cello - Electric cello player, from Noon to 3:00 p.m., on the corner of Venice Boulevard and Main Street
Family Fun - In Town Plaza (adjacent to the Culver Hotel/Pacific Theatres) there will be face painters, balloon artists, glitter tattoos, chalk artists and more. Also, singer/songwriter Randy Kaplan will perform from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with live jazz courtesy of the Culver Hotel from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
WildCraft Pizza also will be featuring a "Chili Relleno Pie" as the "pie of the moment, which will feature roasted pasillas and pork belly on a base of pepper jack, scrambled eggs, and pico de gallo. Chef Tin Vuong told Grub Street,"With the CicLAvia pie, I wanted to bring some East L.A.-influenced flavors to the West Side." The restaurant will also offer food specials on Sunday from noon to 3:00 P.M. (when CicLAvia officially ends), including four-dollar beers from their strong list of drafts, five-dollar wine and dishes.

Thanks for promoting CicLAvia and the Culver City Hub. Because the hub is outside the City of LA, we are having to raise the funds to pay for it. Sony has generously donated $10,000 as a challenge grant. The Downtown Business Assn has pledged to raise $5,000 and I am raising $5,000 from Culver City residents. If folks would like to make a donation (any amount will help us make our match) please make out a check to CicLAvia and mark "Culver City Hub" in the memo column and mail it to me Jim Clarke, P.O. Box 4521, Culver City, CA 90231-4521. All contributions are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. See you on the 21st.
