The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
IndieCade is huge -- and fun -- independent video games festival, held in downtown Culver City each October. The "industry" side of the event includes a professional conference track and business networking opportunities, but the stuff that's the most fun for the public is the chance to play more than 150 new independently developed video games. Although they're often primitive, they sometimes have a kind of raw innovation that you just don't get from the more mainstream titles.
The festival organizers have sifted through more than 400 independent video game entries to select the best games. This year's nominees -- with names like "Affordable Space Adventures" and "A Drinking Game" can be seen HERE.
You can play these titles -- and some award-winning game from years past -- for free on Saturday, October 11, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and on Sunday, October 12, from 12:00 am to 5:00 pm. at Fire Station One @ 9600 Culver Blvd.
On the night of October 11th, starting at 7:00, IndieCade also offers Night Games, which they describe thusly: "Like a video game circus from the future, night games is a one-night bazaar of loud music, unique installations, and exotic exhibitions from the fringes of the game world." Go HERE for more info about that.
