Marina del Rey's Classical Thursday Summer Concerts Starts July 10

The Summer Music Series in Marina del Rey's Burton W. Chace Park -- a must for all music lovers in Culver City -- begins on July 10 this year. On three Thursdays over the next month, the 75-member Marina del Rey Summer Symphony will set up right on the Marina-front, in Burton W. Chace Park.

Arrive early and bring low beach chairs and blankets for first-come, first-served seating. A limited number of chairs are available for on-site rental.

All concerts begin at 7 p.m., generally lasting two hours, and are free to the public.

Thursday, July 10: Opera at the Shore
In a repeating summer favorite, the concert features finalists and winners from the Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition in arias and ensembles performing highlights from of the best-loved operas. Conductor Frank Fetta leads the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony.

Music of Donizetti, Bernstein, Massenet, Verdi, Dvorák, Wagner, Pucinni, Rossini, Floyd, Saint-Saëns, and Bellini.

Thursday, July 24: Symphonic Celebrations
Music of "Violin Concerto" by Tchaikovsky, "Romeo and Juliet" by Prokofiev, and "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky.

Thursday, August 7, 7:00 pm: Movie Music

Maestro Fetta conducts the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony in music from Star Wars, Titanic, and The Wizard of Oz. Also: Gerwhin's "Rhapsody in Blue," and Richard Addinsell's "The Warsaw Concerto" from Dangerous Moonlight.
