The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Two weeks ago "the Rush Street Guys" -- Brian McKeany and Ken Kaufman -- opened a new restaurant in downtown Culver City: City Tavern. It offers refined comfort food (according to their website) or artisanal foods (according to our waitress), which in this case means good burgers, a couple of fish selections, and a range of tasty vegetable sides. We ordered the white beans, Brussels sprouts, and grilled Romaine with parmesan.
The restaurant's well-justified point of pride, however, is its large selection of "California craft" draft beers, wine and specialty cocktails. Although the City Tavern is just a block away from Rush Street, its location abutted against the rear of the Kirk Douglas Theatre lends it a more intimate, subdued and gentle ambiance -- especially in the front patio area, which should be amazing on warm summer nights.
Inside, City Tavern was more bustling and offered TVs showing the NBA playoff games. (Go Lakers!)
