The Online Community for Culver City – The New Scene
Now that Combined Properties has been selected as the developer to create downtown Culver City's newest building, they'll likely be breaking ground some time in 2012. I'm hopeful that Culver City will be getting a great new building. But I must admit that I will be sorry to lose the big, open space that is Parcel B.
2) The Amazing Mural Behind the Kaycee Olsen Gallery
The subject of Where Am I in Culver City Game 008, this mural used to stand behind Kaycee Olsen Gallery at 2685 La Cienega Blvd. When Nye & Brown took over the space, we gained a pretty great gallery, but we lost the mural. Today, it's just a white wall.
Here's video showing where it used to be.
3) D*Face's "Going Nowhere Fast"
In April, British (graffiti) artist D*Face painted a massive, Lichtenstein-esque mural depicting a suave zombie and his girlfriend on the side of the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City's Art District. It was a great space for the image, since there was large empty lot next door. Then in November, construction began on a new building in the lot. Today, just a bit of the image still peeks out, and soon that will be gone. Rumor has it that D*Face has been invited back to create a new mural on the side of the new building when it is completed. Great news, but I'll still miss the original.
