Tom Petty's Stolen Guitars Recovered

To prepare for his upcoming 2012 tour of North America and Europe that kicks off this week, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers rehearsed on a soundstage at The Culver Studios.

Unfortunately, several of Petty's guitars were stolen on April 12, at around 4:00 in the afternoon. The guitars included Petty’s 1967 12-string Rickenbacker and his Gibson SG TV Junior, bandmember Ron Blair's Fender Broadcaster, bandmember Scott Thurston's 1967 Epiphone Sheridan, and bandmember Mike Campbell's blue Dusenberg. Petty is offering a reward of $7,500 for the return of the guitars with “no questions asked.”

UPDATE: According to Culver City Times member Stack Money in the comments section below, the guitars have been recovered.

According to the story in the Los Angeles Times, "The Culver Studios, a complex of 16 soundstages just off Culver Boulevard, was the home of “Deal or No Deal,” “America’s Next Top Model,” and “The Starter Wife.” Films such as “State of Play” and “Rush Hour 3” have also been filmed here. “Cougar Town" is currently in production on the lot."

From Culver City Patch:

Culver City Police Chief Don Pederson told journalists assembled in the CCPD briefing room that CCPD detectives received information that one of the guitars was sold at a pawn shop in Hollywood and officers recovered one guitar from the shop. They were then able to track down 51-year-old Daryl Washington, a private security guard at Culver Studios, and Los Angeles resident.

Washington was booked for Grand Theft, a violation of Penal Code Section 487a.  Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's for filing consideration.

As previously reported five guitars belonging to Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Ron Blair and Scott Thurston were stolen from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' tour production rehearsal studio last week.

We are happy to report that the guitars have been recovered by the Culver City Police Department.

Tom Petty says, "I am extremely grateful to the Culver City Police Department for a job well done and touched by the outpouring of good wishes and concern from our fans and friends."

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' 2012 Tour begins tomorrow night in Broomfield, CO.

See you on the road!
